AN inspired fundraiser has managed to bring festive cheer to a hospital as a tribute to her late husband.
Mary Allen set up Operation Twinkle last year when she noticed that the courtyards of Colchester General Hospital looked bare over Christmas Her husband Richard was forced to spend several of his last Christmases there and Mrs Allen of Great Oakley wanted to spread some joy to those who are suffering by decorating the space with Christmas lights.
“Last year we managed to illuminate three courtyards and this year we have done four and they look spectacular," she said.
She has dubbed Operation Twinkle as Richard’s legacy - he suffered a severe stroke in 2007 before dying of pneumonia in May this year.
