TWO selfless young people have been awarded for their efforts in the community.

The Community Youth Award, run by Lawford, Manningtree and Mistley councils, has been given to two young people who have made a difference in their area.

There were two categories, primary and secondary school age. Each winner received a trophy, certificate and £200.

Nine-year-old Lucy Baalham picked up one of the awards.

She is a member of the ‘young carers’ group and helps her mother to care for her older sister who has Rett Syndrome and learning disabilities.

The winner of the secondary school age group was William Moore, 15, who volunteered to play the piano at Lawford church for their church services following the resignation of the church organist.
