A SCHEME to support vulnerable residents is to be launched in Harwich.
The Winter Warmers pop-up shop first opened in Clacton’s Pier Avenue at the beginning of December as part of a project involving the Princes Trust, Citizens Advice Bureau and Tendring Council.
It saw clothes, blankets, food and toys collected before being handed out to more than 400 people in need in just two weeks. The shop has now been closed and will reopen in Harwich.
Lynda McWilliams, the council’s cabinet member for health and community safety, said: “In just two weeks Winter Warmers has helped more than 400 individuals on benefits and low incomes.
“There have been huge donations of clothes and there are stocks in reserve.
“The shop has also received a £500 donation from a local organisation which wants to remain anonymous and this money will be used to support people in need.”
