PART of a historic maltings could be brought back into use after standing empty for years.
The Barley Kiln is part of the maltings at Mistley, overlooking the river Stour.
The Grade II-listed building was built in about 1896.
Developers have been given the green light to convert the Barley Kiln into a space for work and living.
They were originally given permission to convert the space into a restaurant and bar in 1999, however despite a marketing campaign a pub or restaurant operator was never found.
The building remained empty and owners said it was unlikely a buyer would come forward to develop it into an eatery or drinking establishment.
There are no plans to change the outside of the building and the developers say the proposals will help preserve the character of the conservation area.
