KIND-HEARTED businessmen have donated money so a football club can replace balls stolen in a raid.

Burglars targeted Harwich and Parkeston Football Club’s ground at the Royal Oak, in Dovercourt just days before Christmas.

Seventeen Mitre Calcio black-and-yellow match balls were taken from the club’s tea hut.

However after reading about the club’s plight in the Standard local company Oakley Turf Farm have come forward to pay for replacements.

Kieran Phelan of Oakley Turf Farm said: “We read the article about how they had been broken into and we just thought we would like to do something to help.

“I play down at Harwich Rugby Club and know how important grass roots sport is.”
