A POPULAR children’s attraction is on the verge of being saved after donations from members of the public and community organisations.
Dovercourt Roller Skating on Lower Marine Parade was hit by a £10,000 hike in the cost of their insurance after a child fell and broke his ankle two years ago.
The annual price is now £12,000 but the Royal Antediluvian Order of Buffaloes, which leases the rink from Tendring Council, is hopeful that they will be able to raise the amount needed to get through the winter and renegotiate their plan.
“We have had some success with people donating and the Harwich and Dovercourt Partnership presented us with £300 and the United Services Club donated £100,” said rink spokesman John Brown.
“One lady who wishes to remain anonymous gave us £250 and other people have given us money.
“Now we need another £1,000 before January 27 and then we will be able to switch to our new insurance provider which would cost us around £4,000 per year which will be much more manageable.”
