A MAN has been jailed for four months after admitting an array of motoring offences which led to the wall of a pub in Lawford being destroyed.

Darrell Lambert had been driving a black BMW 318 along Wignall Street in Lawford at 5am on June 12 when he lost control of the car and struck the Kings Arms.

He fled the scene and was arrested a short time later at Manningtree railway station.

Lambert was convicted of one count of driving without due care and attention, one count of driving while disqualified, one count of driving while under the influence of alcohol, one count of driving without insurance, one count of failing to stop after a road traffic accident and one count of failing to report a road traffic accident.

Outside Colchester Magistrates Court, Senior Investigating Officer, Insp Scott Egerton, said: "Darrell Lambert is a menace to the public. He had already been banned from driving and yet he drove again and while drunk on this occasion.

“This crash led to his passenger sustaining some serious injuries and caused extensive damage to the pub.

“After being arrested, he then denied being the driver.

“However, due to the tenacity of the investigating officer, he was left with no option but to plead guilty to the offences and justice has been served.”

Lambert was also disqualified from driving for five years and handed a £300 fine.
