THE closure of a historic pub has been described as a ‘tragedy’ by business bosses.
The Crown in Manningtree announced it would be closed until further notice on New Year’s Day.
It is thought 20 people have lost their jobs as a result of the closure.
The pub was run by Julie Bain for 21 years.
Greene King confirmed the pub had closed due to the ill-health of Ms Bain.
Manningtree Business Chamber boss Jenine Collier described Ms Bain’s departure as a ‘great loss’.
She said: “It is an absolute tragedy that is has closed. It brings people into Manningtree".
