A CYCLING and repair shop has been asked for pies rather than pumps this week after long-forgotten restaurant signage from the 1950s was uncovered.
Howlett’s in Kingsway, Dovercourt was undergoing refurbishment when plastic sheeting was removed, revealing two old shop signs.
One was for Elizabeth’s Restaurant and the other is for a tailors, which are thought to date back to the 1950s or even 1940s.
Owner Oliver Peacock, said: “I remember these vaguely from when I was a little boy in the 50s but I would be really interested to find out more."
Anyone with information about the old businesses is asked to pop in to the shop.
