A TALENTED medical student has become the first to benefit from a £60,000 bequest by a school’s former captain.
Former Manningtree High School head girl Sarah Richardson, who is now studying medicine at Oxford University, has been awarded £2,000 by the George Tatam scholarship.
Last year Mr Tatam’s wife, Eve, bequeathed the £60,000 which can now benefit any student who secures a place at Corpus Christi college in either Oxford or Cambridge.
Miss Richardson, who was also a sixth former at Colchester Royal Grammar School, will use some of the scholarship to fund medical experience with vaccination programmes in Africa.
Deborah Hollister, headteacher of Manningtree High, said: “Seeing our ex-students achieving success at such a high level makes us all very proud. Sarah's gaining of a place at Oxford will inspire our current students to aim high.”
