A football club which was broken into three times in as many months has said the lack of street lights would put the town at risk of crime.

Tony Armstrong, chairman of Harwich and Parkeston Football Club, said: “My view is much the same as everyone else – just when you think it can’t get any worse they go and turn the street lights off.

“Most people won’t walk around Harwich with the street lights on.

“If they turn the lights off it gives thieves more opportunity to commit crimes – especially as you can’t report it at the police station until 12pm the next day.

“The football club has been broken into three times in the last few months. Before this in the club’s 100 year history you could count on two hands the number of times we had been burgled.”
