MP Tim Yeo is understood to have failed in his bid to fight for his South Suffolk seat at the next General Election.

Members of the South Suffolk Conservative Association voted against re-adopting him in a full ballot.

Conservative Party members in South Suffolk, which includes Brantham and East Bergholt, were deciding whether they want to deselect Mr Yeo.

Senior members of his constituency association decided not to re-select Mr Yeo to stand at the next election.

Mr Yeo, 68, lives in East Bergholt, is Suffolk’s longest-serving MP, having been in the House for 30 years.

Mr Yeo was recently investigated by the Parliamentary watchdog over lobbying allegations.

He was cleared and has been reinstated as chairman of the influential Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee.
