Council sells off haulage yard on former landfill site

First published in

A HAULAGE yard in Lawford has been sold by Tendring Council.

Longden’s Transport, which owns the next door site and already lets the waste ground at South Strand on an informal licence from the council, offered to buy the site.

Another adjoining landowner did the same but Longden’s won out after a bidding the highest amount.

The council’s cabinet decided the yard should be sold to the highest bidder.

The land is part of a larger site which was previously operated as a landfill site which has been closed for many years.

Since it closed, the surface has been sealed and developed for industrial use. Most of the rest of the site has already been sold off in parts.
