LIGHTS in a street home to a popular town pub will stay on overnight after a council U-turn.

The street lights in Church Street, Harwich, were due to be switched off from 12am to 5am as part of Essex County Council plans to save money.

However after Harwich County Councillor Ivan Henderson raised concerns about customers leaving The Stingray pub the street will now remain fully lit throughout the night.

Mr Henderson said: “I am pleased for Church Street – I have to say that it is a particular concern as lots of people use the Stingray and will be spilling onto the streets at that time of night."
