A VETERAN hockey player has proved there is life after cancer as he celebrated being highly commended in Sport Colchester’s male personality of the year award.

Terry Howlett, 71, has continued to play hockey at international Masters level despite suffering from prostate cancer since 2008.

He received his prize at a ceremony at the Weston Homes Community Stadium last Monday.

“I will always be a cancer sufferer and although the medication has side effects like lethargy and loss of muscle tone, it makes me train that bit harder than my teammates, which I don’t mind at all.”

Since the diagnosis Terry has won various international titles all over the globe and is now set to play for England in the over-70s World Cup in June which is being held in the Hague in the Netherlands.
