A LAST-DITCH attempt to stop Tendring being plunged into darkness as part of a council’s cash saving plans has failed.

Essex County Council’s decision to turn off street lights across the district between midnight and 5am had been halted after the decision was called-in.

But on Monday county hall bosses upheld the decision and announced the lights will go off from March 2.

County councillor for Harwich, Ivan Henderson, who called in the decision, said: “The survey was skewed and consultation process was skewed."
