RESIDENTS in the Tendring district will see the amount of tax they pay the district council frozen next year.
But new Tendring Council leader Mick Page said residents would still see a significant investment in the district.
Previous council leader Peter Halliday had proposed a 0.5 per cent cut in council tax, but Mr Page will instead put the money towards funding three police community support officers.
The budget, which was agreed at a meeting of the council on Tuesday, will also see the free residents’ parking scheme continue for another year.
Labour opposition leader Ivan Henderson called for £563,000 from the New Homes Bonus – cash from the Government for building new properties – to be spent on clearing up grot spots, tackling fly-tipping and dog fouling and funding Jaywick Community Wardens, but his amendments were lost.
The council’s budget for 2014/5 has been set at £16.3million.
It means the average band D home will pay £155.90 to the district council next year.
