A MAN desperate to run his debut marathon is set to take on the Edinburgh version after missing out on the ballot for the London event three times.
Phil Lewis of The Close in Dovercourt is preparing to tackle the gruelling 26-mile course through the heart of Scotland’s capital city on May 25 to raise money for Help for Heroes and the Sir Bobby Robson Foundation.
This will be Mr Lewis’ first attempt and he has decided to travel north of the border after growing frustrated at missing out because of the draw system which leaves three quarters of applicants unable to take part in the London marathon.
“I decided to apply for the Edinburgh marathon because I was sick of being rejected by London three times in the last four years.
“When I got the letter there was a leaflet suggesting I apply for this one and I am going to make a long weekend of it in what looks like a wonderful city."
