LAND at Bathside Bay should be used for the windfarm industry before it becomes a container port, Tendring's council leader has claimed.

"We've only got a short window of time to do it because the windfarm industry is going to be here for 25 years," said Mick Page, who was voted as the new leader of Tendring Council this month "We have to explore every part of it.

"If we don't Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth and Ramsgate are going to and Harwich will miss out.

"And the Government has to support us, I've spoken to Bernard Jenkin MP already."

Mr Page announced his plans for regeneration to kick-start the area last week, which included employing a renewable energy champion to focus solely on Harwich.

Now, he has said utilising unused space at Bathside Bay, which has planning permission to be turned into a new container port, would create jobs and prosperity, in turn revitilising the whole town.
