CONCERNED town councillors are set to remind a supermarket giant of their responsibilities after lorries smashed into a historic shop.

Manningtree Town Council has agreed to write to Tesco after delivery drivers clipped the side of Creatively Crafty on the corner of High Street and South Street three times in four weeks.

Tesco had agreed to use an alternative route behind the store when their Extra store opened in the town; however problems have surfaced in the last few weeks.

Councillor Mark Morsley said: “It seems as if there has been a change in drivers or something like that because they have stopped abiding by the regulations.

“The route they are taking means the journey is probably cut from quarter of an hour to two minutes.

“This has not been a problem for years and it has only resurfaced again in the last couple of months.”

A Tesco spokesman said: “We have reiterated to our drivers about the correct route to take and we hope to continue to be a good neighbour.”
