MULTI-MILLION-pound plans to transform a dilapidated warehouse on Mistley’s historic quayside have been given the go-ahead for a second time despite the threat of legal action.

Tendring Council’s planning committee has given Maltings firm Edme the green light to bulldoze the old Thorn Quay warehouse and replace it with a new flagship development made up of 45 homes, offices and storage space.

The committee first gave permission in October but the decision is being challenged by Trent Wharfage Logistics which operates from quayside.

TWL claims the permission is unlawful on a number of grounds including allegations the council had ignored national planning guidelines and had ignored the company’s wishes to buy and conserve the warehouses.

Carlo Guglielmi, cabinet member for planning, said: “This will ultimately be decided by a judge but I am pleased that it has come back to committee first."
