BURGLARS have stolen a large widescreen TV and jewellery from a home in Harwich.

The offenders broke into a house in Hordle Street between 11am and midday today (Sunday) while the residents were out.

Investigating officer Dc Bernadette Lord said: "The owner had popped out for just an hour, returning to find their home had been burgled by intruders who clearly did not care who saw them which is why we’re certain that someone would have seen a man walking down the street with a large, unboxed television shortly just before lunchtime on Sunday.”

A forensic examination has been carried out and officers have done door-to-door enquiries.

Officers are asking people to secure their homes following the break-in.

Dc Lord added: "It really is important for people to close and lock their windows and doors whether they are inside or outside and regardless of whether they are just nipping out for a few minutes.”

Anyone with information should call Clacton police station on 101.
