A NEW partnership project aimed at improving training opportunities, close the gap in mental health provision and improve young people’s aspirations is set to launch.

The Harwich Community Consortium group has been formed by Teen Talk, Harwich Education Partnership and Home Start Harwich to try and improve services for young people in the town.

Teen Talk manager Hayley Lovett said: “We are concerned Harwich is becoming an increasingly difficult place for young people to live.

“The problems brought to use are becoming more widespread and increasingly serious yet there seems to be fewer services available for support than in the past."

The group’s ultimate aim is to put together an action plan to deliver solutions to problems in the town and give the community a voice.

A seminar will be held on Friday at Long Meadows Community Centre where more than 60 representatives from health organisations, Tendring Council, Essex County Council and community groups will meet to discuss what needs to be done and what is already in place.

An open meeting could be held in the future for members of the public to get involved with the project.
