HEALTH bosses insist a consultation over a proposed shake-up in maternity services will go ahead as planned despite last week’s bombshell news.
They deny the decision to stop mums giving birth at Clacton and Harwich hospitals will have an impact on the review of baby units, which was originally due to start last year but postponed after Colchester Hospitals Trust was rocked by scandals.
In the initial proposals, three of the four options would have seen the unit in Harwich closed – the other option would have seen it turned into a birthing centre.
The shake-up of services was expected to go before the North-East Essex Clinical Commissioning Group board at a meeting next week.
But the plans have suffered another major setback as it is deemed more consideration is needed over the potential options for a new system.
