TRUSTEES of a successful community shop have applied to amend their opening hours to reflect the needs of the community.

Wrabness Community Shop was started by volunteers three years ago, moved to new premises in Black Boy Lane in September and is set to open an adjoining cafe in the next few weeks.

Board member Tony Elliston said: “We want to change the hours we open rather than extend them and give ourselves more flexibility and bring them more in line with our community needs.

“Just because we would have permission to open for longer hours, does not mean we will always do it.

“When the cafe opens we want to have the option to extend it so members can come in the weekend evenings and sit outside.

“The population nearly doubles in the summer months with people visiting caravans and their chalets.”

In the proposals, which are subject to approval by Tendring Council, the shop would be able to open between 8am and 8pm on Monday to Saturday and 9am to 6pm on Sunday with the cafe able to stay open until 10pm on Sunday and 11pm on other nights.
