Residents called to protest march

Harwich and Manningtree Standard: Harwich needs you! Harwich needs you!

HUNDREDS of campaigners are set to flood the streets of Harwich in protest to shock maternity closures.

Organisers of the march on Saturday are expecting more than 300 people to turn out.

Mums, dads and grandparents were furious when the town's maternity unit, along with the facility at Clacton Hospital, was closed last Monday.

They now plan to stage a protest march to lobby against the decision.

Residents are urged to meet at Cliff Park in Dovercourt at 10am for a 10.30am march to the Fryatt Hospital in Main Road.

Got held up for 3 or 4 minutes this morning as the police stopped traffic for the march. I didn't mind at all. How exciting that all those people cared enough to march for the maternity unit. Surely at some level of protest and annoyance to the powers that be there would be change.
I think you should organise another march, I would guess there were around 300 today. On the next one if today's marchers could get 2 of 3 friends[family to join them you would have over a 1000 people marching.
Well done and the best of luck too.

I was at the march. It was Sad to march pass mothers with prams and small children who couldn't be bothered to support the Harwich maternity unit by turning up or joining the march as we passed them!!
No doubt they used the Harwich maternity in the past. But as we know people are selfish and don't care!!.
