Maternity unit closure: 'My choice has been taken away'
MUM-TO-BE Catherine Baker was due to deliver her first baby at Harwich maternity unit in the next couple of weeks.
However, the 26-year-old was devastated to learn she would have to give birth at Colchester or at home as the local unit had been closed.
To make matters worse, she only found out after reading about the news in the Standard.
She said: “It has left me feeling anxious about my upcoming birth, which is so close."
A spokesman for Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust said Catherine had not been notified as she had not formally booked to give birth at Harwich.
