MORE money, more midwives and more promotion is the wishlist for north Essex maternity units.

Amanda Hallums, the trust’s divisional director of women’s and children’s services, spoke to councillors at a meeting of Tendring’s Health and Well-Being Board.

She said: “These closures are temporary and I would like to see more deliveries take place in the community.

Miss Hallums said she would like to see the units funded separately as the current level of funding did not address the fact the services are delivered from three different locations.

“I want to see more money and more midwives,” she added.

“We need to change the mindset and promote the Tendring units, but only if resources permit.”

Councillors vowed to back the community and fight the closures.

Tendring councillors now want to meet independent experts who are carrying out the review.

They are expected to report back to the trust on June 12.
