VISITORS to Dedham will be charged to use two village car parks from today.
Tourists using car parks in Mill Lane and Mill Pond can park for free for an hour, but will be charged for longer stays under the new rules.
Overnight parking will cost 50p.
Colchester Council has introduced the charges with the agreement of Dedham Parish Council.
It has been trying to draw in extra income by introducing pay and display machines at various borough car parks.
Dedham Parish Council chairman Sheila Beeton said: “We are committed to keeping Dedham a welcoming environment for all.
“Our share of the income from parking charges will be invested in to what is important for the village and we will monitor the new scheme to ensure its smooth introduction.”
