HARWICH Town Council plans to write to Essex County Council to try and get the street lights in the town turned back after a man was seriously hurt falling off his bike.
The shift worker failed to notice a pothole on the Main Road, close to the junction of Clarke’s Road and fractured his collar bone, broke his wrist and sustained concussion.
Councillor Ivan Henderson said: “We owe it to the public to who cannot see the roads they are riding on between the hours of midnight and 5am.
“The roads are dangerous because they have not been maintained properly and with the lights turned off safety is at risk.
“We need to write to Essex County Council and ask the lights go back on for the safety of residents within the town and the district.”
Essex County Council switched off the majority of street lights in Tendring between midnight and 5am from March 2 in a bid to save millions of pounds.
