Historic ferry route started after opening of Esbjerg Port

First published in News

THE opening of the Esbjerg Port was the catalyst for the start of the ferry crossing from Harwich in 1875.

Crossing were stopped during both the First and Second World Wars.

In December 1945, a china vase was given to the people of Harwich on the first passenger Esbjerg crossing following the Second World War to commemorate the reopening of the route.

The vase, made from Royal Copenhagen china, now sits on display in the mayor’s parlour at the Guildhall in Harwich.
