RATHER than presents for her 60th birthday one grandmother is instead asking for sponsorship with the hope of raising £2,000 for charity.

Anne Williams, of Marine Parade, Dovercourt wants to use her milestone birthday to help Cancer Research UK.

En route she will be joined by friends and family, some of whom have themselves been touched by the disease.

he mum of four and grandmother of one, who will be walking the 67-mile long Ridgeway Path in Hertfordshire, lost her mother, Helen, to pancreatic cancer, her sister-in-law, Debbie, to bladder cancer and her cousin Nick to cancer of the oesophagus.

And in 2007 her son Alex, aged 22 at the time, was diagnosed with Burkitts Lymphoma, a form of cancer in the immune system - he recovered.

Mrs William's birthday is in September, but she will be taking on her walking challenge on May 10.
