A GRANDMOTHER has spoken of her shock after her 10 month old grandaughter was turned away from hospital while suffering a serious allergic reaction.

Christine Whithington took baby Summer to the Minor Injuries Unit at the Fryatt Hospital in Dovercourt after she reacted badly to eating egg.

But Mrs Whithington, of Fronks Road, Dovercourt claims she was told by a nurse they did not have time to assess the tot, whose face had swollen up and blisters had started to appear on her skin.

Instead she had to drive 20 miles to Colchester A&E in her own car.

She said: “It is disgusting.

“She is alright now but it could have been a different story.

A spokesman for ACE, which runs the Minor Injuries Unit at the Fryatt hosital, said the incident was out of hours and advised patients to call NHS 111 for out of hours advice or 999 in an emergency.
