Baby Summer turned away from hospital

First published in News

A GRANDMOTHER has spoken of her shock after her 10 month old grandaughter was turned away from hospital while suffering a serious allergic reaction.

Christine Whithington took baby Summer to the Minor Injuries Unit at the Fryatt Hospital in Dovercourt after she reacted badly to eating egg.

But Mrs Whithington, of Fronks Road, Dovercourt claims she was told by a nurse they did not have time to assess the tot, whose face had swollen up and blisters had started to appear on her skin.

Instead she had to drive 20 miles to Colchester A&E in her own car.

She said: “It is disgusting.

“She is alright now but it could have been a different story.

A spokesman for ACE, which runs the Minor Injuries Unit at the Fryatt hosital, said the incident was out of hours and advised patients to call NHS 111 for out of hours advice or 999 in an emergency.

'A spokesman for ACE'... It could just as easily have been Harmoni, or Virgin, or any other of the vultures now picking over the carcass of the NHS. I'm glad that Summer seems to have made a full recovery, but this case serves as a warning of how things will only get worse while the coalition lines the pockets of its friends at the same time as reducing the services for which we all pay.

They have an excuse for everything all and sundry.
Hotshot lawyers are employed for them at our expense.
The trick is to fire as many darts at them, eventually one will stick.
There is no excuse for shoddy, tardy or unprofessional behaviour at all in Public Service, be it contracted out or not. AVPG
PS. I would have been SH*T scared too by the way:
