ASSISTED Area means businesses are eligible to apply for regional aid, which is typically given in the form of a cash grant to businesses in economically deprived areas.
Harwich Mayor Dave McLeod said the town would be “fighting hard” to capitalise on the status.
“Everybody is clapping their hands as at long last we have got this,” he said.
“It is good news for Harwich, good news for the district and good news for the county.
“The door is open now and we will be taking full advantage of it to get out of it what we can."
