SCRAPPING a recycling centre in Dovercourt could cause a wave of flytipping, it has been warned.
The centre has been earmarked for closure in the latest cost-cutting measures by Essex County Council.
It was among 13 across Essex shortlisted for the axe highlighted on a leaked document.
Maps were handed to the Standard showing the location of centres set to close and those where new or larger facilities would be created.
It means people who use the Dovercourt Recycling Centre will instead have to travel 13 miles to the one in Lawford.
Harwich councillor David Flavell said he was furious.
“It’s a dreadful decision – I find it appalling.
“If people don’t have access to transport then the centre in Lawford might as well be on the moon instead, because people won’t use it."
