A COUNCIL boss has vowed residents will be given a say if plans to close recycling centres are brought forward.

Essex County Council leade David Finch said: “There are no formal proposals on recycling centres and no decisions have been made.”

Mr Finch would not be drawn on whether sites, such as West Mersea, Maldon, Witham, Dovercourt, which are leased to Essex County Council rather than owned, would be the first to be looked at in a review.

He also said although the consultation concluded last month, “no detailed analysis” has been carried out, adding: “It was about understanding where the public use particular sites.”

The leader even went as far as saying un-named sites across the county which are “out-dated” and may no longer be fit for purpose could be refurbished.

He added an “extensive consultation” would be held with the public before any final decisions are made.

Essex County Council runs 21 centres at a cost of £6.4million a year.
