CHARITABLE Rotarians are encouraging people to join them on a ramble to raise money for good causes.

The Mayflower Walk is now in its twelfth year, with participants asked to travel the 13.8miles from Harwich to Manningtree along the Essex Way.

The event has raised thousands of pounds over the years with participants donating 75 per cent of the cash they raise to a chosen charity, and the remainder going into Manningtree Rotary Club’s charitable account.

Terry Dean is organising this year’s walk and is hoping for yet another good turnout.

“So far we have had around 80 people sign up and there is always a hardcore who do it every year.

“It is quite far so it is not just a stroll in the park but you get to see so much glorious countryside.

“We start at the sea and then go along the river before meeting the country so you get a little bit of everything.”

This year’s walk is on Sunday May 25 and participants are asked to meet at the Low Lighthouse at 10am to leave at 10.30am.
