A LONG serving cleaner has finally hung up her hoover after nearly four decades of service.
Trish Wylie, 62, began working at Manningtree Sports Centre in 1976 when it first opened and was interviewed by legendary Colchester United manager Dick Graham who masterminded the U’s 3-2 FA Cup win over Leeds.
She has now given up the job because of arthritis in her feet and admits it is a little strange to not have to go in to work.
“It feels really peculiar because I have worked for so many years doing the same thing,” she said.
“I know it sounds sad but I am worried about other cleaners making a mess of my store cupboard and get very protective of it.
“If it had not been for my arthritis I probably would have stayed on a bit longer but I now find it a bit more difficult getting up and down the stairs.
“The staff are like one big family so I will definitely miss it.”
