Work begins to rectify greensward

WORK has started to cover an area where potentially deadly metal spikes were discovered close to a popular beach.

Last summer beach hut owners in Dovercourt found six-inch long spikes on the greensward near their huts at West End Lane.

The issue was reported to Tendring Council who said they would be coming up with a solution to the problem.

The council said the metal rods and other sharp objects had been uncovered by high tides washing away soil and immediately moved to make people aware of the issue.

Town and district councillor Jo Henderson has a beach hut near to where the spikes were found and is happy work has been started to rectify the problem.

She said: “The greensward is now returning to how it should look.

“I am really pleased they are getting on with that work and hopefully it will be done before the start of the season.

“I welcome this work they are doing but it is just a shame it has taken so long."
