FEARS have been raised that the need for thousands of extra homes will put villages back in the firing line of developers.

In 2011, controversial plans were mooted for 2,500 homes in the Harwich area, and 1,480 of them in Little Oakley, in initial stages of work on the Local Plan.

A total of 1,100 homes were proposed for sites around the Manningtree area, with 600 of those in Mistley.

Mistley Parish Council chairman Martin Rayner said: "We don’t know where the committee is looking for the additional growth.

“Manningtree has already increased its allocation as we added land off Stour View Close – we will cross our fingers other sites won’t come up.”
