A KITCHEN barge used at the D-Day landings will be the centrepiece of a commemorative ceremony.
Harwich and Dovercourt sailing club will host its final memorial service, including D-Day veterans from around the country, to honour the 70th anniversary of the event.
The club has a special connection to the day of the Normandy landings as the clubhouse is a converted LBK6 barge which was used on D-Day.
Rear Commodore Ivan Cranfield said: “This year being the 70th anniversary, and because the veterans are obviously aging and finding it difficult to attend, this is the last year the event will take place.”
Veterans and dignitaries will be on site at Gas House Creek, Harwich at 11am on Friday June 6, with the public also welcome to attend.
