Local historian Brian Woods has been collecting the photographs for more than 20 years and believes the pictures are well worth viewing.

“There is definitely something to interest everyone in this collection,” he said.

“It is incredibly interesting to track the developments of the area and you can physically see how sections of Harwich and Dovercourt have been built on over the period.

“Perhaps the most interesting part of the photographs is a 1940 German reconnaissance photo identifying bombing targets for the German Luftwaffe had selected for bombing during the Second World War in Harwich, Parkeston and Felixstowe.

“Some of the areas were hit, some were not.

“All the photographs are still in very good condition.”
