RURAL communities can feel as though they are being left behind when it comes to broadband speeds.

For some they rarely get above 0.6mbps and face high costs for broadband service.

Andrew Killick, of Plicox Hall Lane, in Tendring, rarely sees his broadband speed exceed 0.7mbps.

He said: “To rub salt in the wound, I have to pay the highest monthly tariff from Sky of £17 per month – that’s on top of line rental – as this is the only option available.

“The service we receive is disgusting considering the price we pay. I’ve looked at other broadband providers, who all say the speed they offer should be between 1mbps to 3mbps.

"However, they cannot guarantee the speed and whoever I go with, the speed would likely be the same.”
