Fresh double scandal at Colchester General Hospital over waiting lists and drug tampering

A NURSE stole a morphine-based drug while working at Colchester General Hospital, it is claimed.

It has emerged she was caught after another member of staff noticed a bottle of the liquid in the controlled drug cabinet was not the same consistency as one beside it.

Bosses initially thought there was a problem with the batch, but when it was sent for tests, the results showed it had been diluted.

An agency nurse has been reported to the Nursing and Midwifery Council, which has imposed an interim order.

The council will conduct its own investigation, while Essex Police is also investigating the claims after it was alerted in February.

Dee Hackett, director of nursing at the Turner Road hospital, said: “This is very rare.

“In my 33 years of nursing, I have seen it only very rarely, which is why our first thought was not that the drug had been tampered with.”

Meanwhile, it has also emerged the first member of staff has been suspended in connection with the fiddling of cancer appointment waiting times.

The employee was suspended after a whistle-blower raised concerns about bullying, harassment and manipulated waiting lists.

The allegations relate to the endoscopy and dermatology departments.

Dr Lucy Moore, chief executive of the Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust which runs the Turner Road hospital, said: “An investigation was conducted into the claims and the response is the suspension of one member of staff.

“We are now reviewing what other staff we need to talk to, both to assure ourselves and patients and also to assess whether there are other areas that we need to review with a high level of scrutiny.”

Whoops a daisy here we go again....
Still no arrests from the last fiasco?
How much evidence do you need Essex Police?
How long is this going to go on for?
How many times does the gazette have to keep publishing these expose's before anything gets done?
Maybe if the public got together and filed a complaint to the Home Office and The Inspectorate Of Constabulary some results might be achieved.
A welcome return to the Flying Pink Pigs Aerobatic team, at The military festival in three weeks time, I see the practise runs are taking place at the moment over Mile End.
Water of a ducks back, this TRUST is so thick skinned, they make a Rhino look like a shrivelled prune.

If you actually bothered to read the report before ranting, you would quickly notice that Essex Police ARE investigating the nurse who stole the morphine-based drug.

The suspended employee is part of the "last fiasco" (as you put it). It will no doubt be an involved investigation and take some time.

You absolute P*llo*k, the article was changed over night by the gazette, the initial article made no mention of the girl who has been nicked for the drug tampering.
The first article on the subject, stated that further allegations had been made, nothing else.
The gazette carried over the same on line contributor posts, with the updated new article, on the same or similar subject.

Please try not to get so emotional. It's really not a drama. You're angst is directed at the wrong person. I didn't publish incorrect information.

Anyway, the story is still wrong. The issue regardingalledged bullying over waiting times is NOT fresh.
