Schools need you!

Harwich and Manningtree Standard: Schools need you! Schools need you!

THERE is a shortage of governors at almost every school in Tendring.

And the biggest need is for community governors - people who live or work in the local area.

To help encourage residents to come forward and fill the gap the Tendring Education Improvement Group, made up of representatives from Essex County Council, Tendring Council, headteachers and Tendring Education Trust, has organised two recruitment drive meetings - the first of which is held tonight.

Graham Lancaster, lead commissioner for primary schools who also sits on the improvement group, said that it is vital that schools have their full quota of governors as they are key partners in the leadership of schools.

“It presents an opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way to the quality of education provided for children and young people in the local area, in this case Tendring,” he said.

To find out more visit one of this month's meetings for a short information session followed by the chance to ask questions.

The first will be tonight at Spring Meadow Primary School in Dovercourt and the second at Clacton County High School on June 24, both starting at 6.30pm.

Why would one bother for the stress and paperwork of such a job? Education is crippled at all levels by pointless government paperwork and Governorship is but one example.
