A NOVICE yachtswoman is hoping to take on the challenge of a lifetime by setting sail across the Atlantic.

Sarah Nightingale is on a 30 person shortlist to take on the test, which is being funded by Informa Business Intelligence where she works, to raise money for Save the Children.

Along with the other hopefuls, Sarah will be assessed on her teamwork, nautical skills, and ability to raise money before attending an interview to see if she can set sail the 2,700 nautical miles from Gran Canaria to St Lucia on a 70ft yacht in November.

The former Harwich resident, who still has family in the area, believes it could be an adventure of a lifetime.

“I think it is the challenge which makes me want to do it and to learn about how I work in such extreme conditions,” said the 26-year-old who now lives in Maidenhead.

“It is such a good opportunity to push myself and I realise this is not some sort of jolly sailing trip.

“My personal target is to raise £1,000 and the team has done fantastically to already raise more than £15,000.”
