MORE than a thousand new homes could be built either side of the River Stour amid fears infrastructure may not be able to cope.

Manningtree, Mistley and Lawford are set to be expected to deliver 700 homes as part of the new Local Plan being put together by Tendring Council.

On top of this the redevelopment of the former Wardle Storeys’ site in Brantham could see a further 600 homes being built.

This could mean there would be 1,300 homes within a few miles putting pressure on the infrastructure and resources in the Manningtree area.

Despite years of work, Tendring Council’s draft local plan was thrown out by officers in May, as it was expected planning inspectors would reject it following complaints from Colchester Council.

The original plan included earmarking areas for more than 6,000 new homes but the council now needs to provide 12,120 homes and 5,000 jobs in the district between 2014 and 2031.

At a meeting on Tuesday the Local Plan Committee will consider a report on the best places to build the homes.
