Diabetes support in Harwich

Harwich and Manningtree Standard: Diabetes support in Harwich Diabetes support in Harwich

A NEW support group is set to be launched in Harwich to help people living with diabetes.

The North East Essex Diabetes Service is inviting residents to a coffee morning to discuss the creation of a patient-led diabetes group on Friday July 18 at 10am at the Long Meadows Community Centre.

The idea is for the group to be run by patients who will receive help and support from the diabetes service, providing specialists nurses or other speakers for meetings to help improve understanding and management of diabetes.

They will also use feedback from the patient group to help improve the care provided by the service.

Julie Smith, Operations Director, Suffolk GP Federation, said: “In order to increase patient involvement we are looking to create some new patient-led groups.

"These groups have shown to be a great way for people to learn about and manage their type one and type two diabetes and will help more people to become involved with how the NEEDS service is run.”
