POWER cuts, flooding and broadband are just some of the things Tendring’s most rural residents continually battle with.

This can seem strange to many living with modern infrastructure and while thousands of people dream of moving to the country in reality it can be like stepping back in time.

Last year’s storms and floods highlighted how susceptible Tendring’s rural homes are to nature.

Tom Howard, councillor for Great and Little Oakley, said poor broadband and regular power cuts were a common experience to many residents in his ward.

He said: “These problems are aggravated by the unsurprising provision of both power and telecoms to many local residents by cables strung between telegraph poles.

“This makes them particularly susceptible to high winds, rain ingress and to vehicles or machinery damaging the poles and cables."
