HUNDREDS of people descended upon the streets of Harwich for an annual garden extravaganza.

Flower fans flocked to see yards which are tucked away behind historic homes in the town as part of the Secret Gardens event.

Organisers raised close to £2,000 as people wandered around each of the 25 sites armed with programmes acting as guides to each of the hidden gems.

Money raised will be split between St Nicholas Church, Age Concern, Teen Talk, the Ark Centre and Harwich and District Fellowship of the Sick.

Secret garden spokesman Deborah Rich was delighted with how the day went despite some inclement weather.

“I think we had about 200 people turn up on both Saturday and Sunday and we only had two five minute spells when someone wasn’t in the garden,” she said.
